Yes the harmonic drive gear can be driven back. By the way, this
happens in every typical robotic cycle hundreds of times every day:
Every time when the axis is in motion and slowed down rapidly, the
load inertia on the gear output side drives back the gear (in a
controlled manner, determined by motor and controller).
2. What does a harmonic drive do?
Hamornic drives are used in increasing the output torque in gears
used in milling, in manufacturing, and in machines that use robotic
arms.
