Product description

The strain wave gearing uses the elasticity of metal. The harmonic reducer gears have three basic components: a wave generator, a flex spline , and a circular spline.

More complex versions have a fourth component normally used to shorten the overall length or to increase the gear reduction within a smaller diameter, but still follow the same basic principles.

The strain wave reducer gears offer advantages such as high reduction ratios in a single stage, zero backlash, and high precision that cannot be equaled by conventional gear trains.

Components 1. The Wave Generator of the strain wave gear is comprised of a specially designed thin raced ball bearing that is fitted onto an elliptical hub. 2. The Flexspline is a thin cylindrical cup made from alloy steel with external teeth on the open end of the cup. The Flexspline is radially compliant but torsionally is very stiff. 3. The Circular Spline is a rigid ring with internal teeth. When the gear is assembled it engages the teeth of the Flexspline across the major axis of the Wave Generator ellipse.
